Employment laws are important and businesses should pay attention to it. Moreover, every organization must make all their employees aware of their rights as mandated by this law. On this note, there are eight primary Federal employment law that everyone should memorize by heart. Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 is first on the list. Number two is the Civil Rights Act of 1966. This law more specifically bans discrimination on the basis of race or ethnicity. The Equal Pay Act of 1963 is number three. Under such law, both men and women in the same working position and condition must receive equal compensation.
The fourth one is the law that many Americans may have heard of but do not fully comprehend. This one is the Disabilities Act. This employment law prohibits discrimination because of any disability.
Next is the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, which prohibits discrimination based on citizenship of people who can work in the US.
Number six on the line is the Age Discrimination in Employment Act. It is called ADEA for short. This law forbids discrimination against 40-year-old and above individuals.
The next one is the Equal Employment Opportunity Act. This law forbids minorities from getting discriminated based on poor credit ratings. Lastly, there is a law that protects a person who has declared bankruptcy against discrimination. This is the Bankruptcy Act.
Those are the eight basic employment laws of authorized by the Federal government. In addition to those laws, each individual state may have its own set of employment laws that must be observe.
Furthermore, there are other laws that also protect the rights of employees in the United States. For one, there is the Occupational Safety and Health Act. This act mandates people in all 50 states, including DC and all US territories to pay attention to specific health and safety regulations. Another example is the Family Medical Leave Act or FMLA for short. This one gives an employee the privilege to take unpaid leave from work due to specific conditions. Other examples are Employee Polygraph Protection Act Labor Law. The Fair Labor Standards Act or FLSA is another example. These seem like a lot to take in but knowledge of this is a must.
